INSTRUCTIONS

1. Invite your kid to join you in pretending that you’re going to the beach.

2. Tell them that you need to decide what to pack.

3. Say: I'm going to the beach, and I'm bringing a towel.

4. Ask them to share what they are bringing to the beach, building on the item you already said. For example, your kid could say: “I'm going to the beach, and I'm bringing a towel and a shovel.”

5. It's your turn again! Continue building on the list (continuing to recite the things you named before) until you can't remember everything you've packed.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT

This game models a Working Memory strategy called cumulative rehearsal. Research shows that repeating things over and over helps people remember them. Working Memory is important both in and out of school because it helps with everything from reading comprehension to direction following!
