Make the Match

In five rounds, how many times did your kid match  following the new rule right away?

Make the Match

MATERIALS NEEDED

Paper or card cut into ten ‘playing’ cards

Red and blue pens

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Create a card game by drawing a star, a square, a circle, a triangle and a flower onto five of your playing cards in red.

2. Draw the same shapes in blue on the remaining five cards.

3. Lay all the cards out face up.

4. Choose one, and ask your kid to find the card with a matching shape. Repeat this a few times.

5. Now, change the rules! This time ask your kid to pick a card with a matching colour instead.

6. Keep switching between the two rules of the game to give them lots of practice at staying focused.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT

Staying focused is a skill which helps us regulate our own behavior; having better self-control can help your kid be both a better friend and student.
